Sit back and enjoy the ride as we take you on a guided tour of Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island’s East End, in air-conditioned comfort, without having to do a lot of hiking! We’ll ride the ferry over to the Bolivar Peninsula, watching for Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins as well as Magnificent Frigatebirds along the way. Once on the other side, we’ll visit historic Fort Travis Seashore Park, where we’ll look for Marbled Godwits, Long-billed Curlews, and Black-bellied Plovers as well as other shorebirds. Then we’ll go to the Houston Audubon Society’s Bolivar Flats Shorebird Sanctuary, which has been recognized as a Globally Important Bird Area, where you’ll get the opportunity to see Least Sandpipers, Piping Plovers, Ruddy Turnstones, Reddish Egrets, and many other Texas Gulf Coast specialties up close! After we return to Galveston, we’ll check East Beach for Black Skimmers, Red-breasted Mergansers, Belted Kingfishers, Ospreys, and many other species of interest. You may want to bring snacks and drinks.
